MALACHY MC COURT
We are honored to have best selling author Malachy Mc Court as our contest judge. He has written seven books including NY times bestseller A Monk Swimming, Singing My Him Song, Danny Boy, The Claddagh Ring, Voices of Ireland, Malachy Mc Court’s History of Ireland, Harold Be Thy Name, and Bush Lies in State. He has published in many periodicals including New York Newsday, National Geographic, Conscience Magazine, and the New York Times. He co-wrote the play, A Couple of Blaguards with his brother Frank, author of Angela’s Ashes. Malachy is also an accomplished actor and has appeared on Broadway, off-Broadway, and in regional theatres. He has been a cast member of the soap operas Ryan’s Hope, Search for Tomorrow, One Life to Live, and All My Children. Film credits include Molly Maquires, She’s the One, The Devil’s Own, Green Card, Happy Hour, Guru of Sex, Gods and Generals, and Ash Wednesday. He has a running part on the HBO prison series Oz.

Musical Genius David Amram is a national treasure. The first composer-in-residence under Leonard Bernstein at the NY Philharmonic, David went on to score soundtracks to Splendor In The Grass, The Manchurian Candidate, Joseph Papp’s Shakespeare In The Park and over 100 orchestral and chamber music works. He was the musical accompaniment for The Beat Generation’s Kerouac, Ginsburg, Lamentia and Corso, also scoring the film Pull My Daisy. He has played jazz piano, French horn and even penny whistle with jazz greats including Dizzy Gillespie. A yogi for 27 years, jewelry designer, published author and poet, Mikelle is also an avid animal lover (anyone who knows Mikelle knows she always has a few organic dog bones in her bag even thought she doesn’t have a dog). Mikelle is a graduate of Cornell University, Gestalt Associates, and Sound and Music Institute, NYC. She began designing jewelry in 2000 inspired to create a social platform for greater good and to empower women to look and feel like goddesses. Mikelle Design jewelry has been featured in national and international publications including Yoga Journal, JCK Magazine, and National Jewelers, Avenue Magazine, Hamptons Magazine, Elle Décor, and Metropolitan Home. Her current collection is carried by ABC Home NYC and by several specialty boutiques throughout the Northeast. Born in Liverpool, UK, Bryan moved to the US in 1986. He is founder and owner of Bulldog Studios based in Sag Harbor NY, www.bulldogstudiosny.com. He has produced over 28 teen singers and bands and has helped promote them in singer/songwriter circuits throughout the Hamptons and NYC. His sound studio has been used in the film and TV industry by such great talents as Richard Gere, Richard Kind, Blythe Danner, Lorraine Brocco, Liev Schreiber, Mariska Hargitay, Mike Lupica and more. Music projects have included Jay-Z, Thalia, and companies such as Paramount, MTV, Disney, NPR, HBO, PBS and 20th Century Fox.

Saxophonist extraordinaire, Erik is also a flutest, composer, arranger, journalist, poet and educator. Steampunk Seranade, the newly released album from his jazz group, Honey Ear Trio, was star-picked by the New York Times and reviewed as “one of the years most impressive jazz debuts” by Time Out Magazine.
Erik is quite involved in putting his music in multidisciplinary settings with poetry, dance, film, visual art and nature. In addition to leading his own groups, he has been a sideman with greats from Buddy Miles to Sonny Sharrock. Erik is currently a member of Levon Helm’s band, with whom he was recently featured on the Grammy winning album Electric Dirt. He has performed Solo improvised saxophone at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York. Erik has been featured at music festivals around the world and has performed with Chico Hamilton, Medeski Martin & Wood, Aaron Neville, Bob Dylan, David Bromberg, Bruce Hornsby and many, many others. Julie, a native New Yorker, has been a dedicated student of yoga for over 15 years. She is a Certified Anusara Yoga® teacher, studying and apprenticing regularly with Anusara founder John Friend. Known for her lively, spirited and positive teaching style, Julie has taught around the world for nearly 10 years and is one of the most sought after Anusara teachers in New York. A true animal lover (she has 2 life-long kitty pals), Julie looks to the elephants and their gentle majesty as guides in our whirlwind world.
Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Isabel is a film producer, fashionista, and social media guru who started working in all things media as a creative director for Hollywood producer Wendy Kram. She is a graduate of The New York Film Academy and has produced several of her own films. She started getting into blogging when she landed a job at B360 Media. Moving to NYC in pursuit of a career in fashion and pop culture blogging, Isabel received her first necklace from the Happy Elephant collection as a gift, and has been working on the cause ever since.
Brooke Seder is a recent graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology where she studied advertising and graphic design. She began working with Mikelle Design in 2008, and has been an integral part of the company’s growth. She has been with the Mikelle Design Happy Elephant Campaign since its inception. Given her love of elephants and of jewelry, she is thrilled to be a part of the project.
